J. RAE PICTOU
Mi'kmaq Glass Artist & Storyteller
Visualizing the intersection of biracial Mi'kmaq identity and womanhood in a colonially constructed world.

My Studio
Located in rural Maine, I am proud to be part of a small group of Mi'kmaw artists doing contemporary visual works in both traditional and non-traditional mediums. My art studio is a place where I can work with glass in both cold and hot forms whether that is cutting stained glass, hand faceting/grinding glass forms, shaping molten glass on a bench torch, or beading more traditional formations. From sculpture to beadwork my art is inspired by my own experiences as an indigenous woman and explores the meaning of survival as one who walks in two worlds.
